Charity Fund Raising
The Rainbow Centre
Following the success of our fund raising for the Lily May Appeal during last year, the PPA will be supporting The Rainbow Centre charity in Fareham during 2008/09.
In 17 years, the Rainbow Centre has helped over 400 children learn to overcome the problems caused by conditions such as cerebral palsy and other types of motor impairment by using a special system of learning known as Conductive Education. The children and their families consistently achieve a better quality of life as a result.
Conductive education was developed in Hungary from 1945 founded on the work of Andras Peto. It is a unified system of rehabilitation with neurological disorders such as Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and those recovering from strokes or head injuries. Its aim is to help children and adults with motor disorders learn to overcome problems of movement as a way of enabling them to live more active and independent lives.
The Rainbow Centre does not receive any money from central government and rely on fund raising to be able to run the services at the Centre. They rely on the time given by volunteers, the generosity of the public, the huge effort by fund raisers and the community at large.

The PPA members were invited to a presentation by Helen Somerset How, one of the founder members of The Rainbow Centre, on the 18 June 2008.
During the year PPA fund raising events for The Rainbow Centre included the PPA Charity Quiz Night on Wednesday 17th September 2008 at the Pyramids Centre, Clarence Parade Southsea. Quiz teams were for teams of four people and both PPA members and non-members were invited to attend this event to pit their wits to win prizes and help support this local and worthy cause. This followed the successful PPA Golf day and recent fund raising lunch on HMS Worrier.
The PPA were pleased to present a cheque for £1250.00.
